About the show
Fictions brings together five recent paintings by Daniel Núñez Ferrara — a painter from Monterrey who works the canvas the way time works a wall.
The title Fictions owes a debt to Borges. The Lost City of the Immortals does too, and alludes to "The Immortal" — that story where a Roman crosses deserts to find an ancient architecture made by beings who no longer inhabit it.
But the bestiary is his own. Tsunami — a Godzilla with a pipe who, unwillingly, terrifies a flooded city. Emplumada (the Plumed One), a mythical creature floating above the rooftops. Nostalgia, an everyman resting in a supermarket swimming pool, surrounded by cameos from the painter's own universe.
The fictions of the title are not escape. They are ways of seeing what is already here, but in another light — contemporary frescoes, where the oneiric takes the shape of buildings and creatures that surprise themselves.
